The Stepwell | India Memories // Recursion made real, this ancient stepwell was like Escher in stone, four identical sides reaching deep into the earth, a thousand years of engineering practices and old lore. I’d known from the beginning that we had to find a place like this to tell our story, from the legendary well in Tarsem’s “The Fall,” to McCurry’s excellent work in India during the monsoon, I’d see enough of these wonders of architecture to know we wanted one in the world we were building.
