Home Again, A Sea Of Sand Pt. II | We forget how cold a desert can be before the sun is up. Caught up in warm hues and shadeless vistas, there is only sun in our minds, and so sun there shall be. But at dawn, when the world is quiet, and all the light is yours, your breath fogs above the sea of sand, hands struggling to flex and function - and you remember that you love it here. A world built only of extremes, greatness on a slim spectrum. And I think of all the world’s climates and locales, of its vistas and special places that I have had the pleasure to find, photograph and behold, I love the desert the most. I have always loved it. The Little Prince & The Sea Of Sand | Circumventing the world in three weeks time means there’s little room for sleep or error, moving from continent to continent, camping on airplanes, catching each dawn and every sunrise, you find yourself operating at a different frequency, meeting hundreds, collecting names and memories like fireflies, bridging worlds and building bridges, searching out the hidden spots, the little truths, the good adventure, committing it to memory with fine-tipped pen, building a cheat sheet of the world’s finer points, its people, its traditions, its humor and its food - you create a tapestry of your experiences, cataloging it for others in your pictures and your words, piecemealing it out for others to share (from their bedrooms and their offices), you do your best to demonstrate that human beings are, fundamentally, the same. Farewell Stairs & Escher Goodbyes | On our last day in Rio, we saw beauty in all its forms, in the hidden places. We found it in the summer storms, the wet heat that painted lines down the small of your back, in the afternoon light that made the pavement glow. We knew in a way that we’d be back, that we had to come back - and that each colorful wall and slab of concrete was a story we hadn’t found yet, and that it was the people that rang the pulse of the city, filling the world with a warmth beyond rising mercury, but rather one of words and song and turn of phrase, all flashing eyes in summertime heat. Lonely Hearts Palm | Copacabana beach for dawn watch, we tracked the slow equatorial sun as it heated up the horizon, getting us ready for the day. Vidigal Views | Back on the road after barely 96 hours in-country, I think we caught every sunset and sunrise possible, leaving little room for sleep or diversion. Redeemers | Rio in January spells summer storms and clouds that roll heavy like great tectonic plates across the sky. Deep in the distance, buried by rain and time, The Redeemer watches over the city, and all the rest of us. Welcome to Rio | Less than 10 hours in-country and we’ve hit the city’s highest and lowest points, from Copacabana to Vidigal we scoured the city for its secrets and sights, pursued by that famous heavy weather. Clouds rolled and roiled, bringing sunsets to stop you in your tracks, and a thunderstorm that rattled windows and flooded streets - then, we watched our first sunset from the equator, and took in the (perpetually) summer night. #TheWorldTour (at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
